Lighting Designer

“More and more, so it seems to me, light is the beautifier of the building.”

Frank Lloyd Wright – Architetto

The lighting designer is a all-around specialist of light, he is the one who creates harmony by integrating space and light (or shadow!).

Lighting is a field that goes beyond the theoretical knowledge of lighting technology and in which architecture, design, science, optics, electrical, ergonomics, materials, colorimetry, psychology, eco-sustainability, art, standards and codes blend together.

The light specialist, therefore, must have an artistic component and technical taste. Its creativity is constantly confronted with feasibility issues, structural limitations and regulatory constraints. Furthermore it is essential to remember the practical experience that allows him to play an active role during the coordination of the workers on site.

The lighting designer profession operates in independence of choices, he/she does not sell or install products, nor it is bound to any supplier, that means, he/she is free from any conflict of interest.

He’s a consultant who puts first customer needs and the quality of the project: a well-lit environment is liveable and pleasant, the proper use of light can increase the saleability of products, improve productivity at work, instill greater safety and, in general, act on psychophysical well-being.

The lighting designer adds value to every project, whether large or small, inside or outside, public or private; it can create environments full of emotion and can make comfortable spaces that, even if we do not know why, do not make us at ease; it can provide solutions that respect a certain budget or help to establish the necessary badget at an early stage of design.

The idea of custom-made environments for the user goes beyond the simple concept of choosing a luminaire but leads to the creation of aesthetically attractive spaces and, at the same time, more “green” or “smart” solutions (no over-lighting, integration with natural light, dimming, reduction of installation times, …) which often imply a general reduction in costs, both during construction and then in the daily use of the environment.

The lighting designer, in short, brings to light all the distinctive features of each project!
